Which musical instrument should I choose for my child?
As parents, you understand your child’s temperament. You know whether they rise to a challenge, or need a lot of encouragement and confidence to master a new skill. For many children, a piano or keyboard is an excellent first instrument as results can be gained relatively rapidly. What sort of keyboard is most suitable for a beginner?
The minimum requirement would be a 5 octave, touch sensitive keyboard with a good quality piano sound. Yamaha and Casio make excellent models. Check out our Keyboard page.
My son wants to learn electric guitar, what type is best?
Different guitars and amps are suited to different styles of music, so the choice is partially dictated by the style of music he prefers. Bring him in and let him talk to our highly knowledgeable and approachable guitar specialists. You’ll both learn about the necessary equipment and accessories to successfully master the electric guitar.
Do you have a musical instrument that suits my budget?
Our people understand that caution is needed when purchasing musical instruments for children. We are acutely aware that children can be fickle! Our professional staff who take pride in their knowledge about musical instruments will never try to sell you something will not be used by your child. Building a long term relationship with you and your child is far more valuable to us than a quick sale.
Can we rent a piano?
The Piano Shop & Music Co. is able to offer a most attractive piano rental/purchase plan. This arrangement is very popular, particularly with parents who are unsure whether their children will commit to playing the piano. Do you stock theory papers for music examinations?
Yes, we have a very wide range of theory papers for examinations, including the VCE (Victorian Certificate of Education, the AMEB, ANZCA and the Trinity Hall Guild London. We are highly knowledgeable in this area, with over 40 years expertise. We also carry sheet music and scores. If we don’t have what you are looking for, we will find it and order it for you.
Can I purchase my child’s music textbooks at The Piano Shop & Music Co?
We have an enormous range of music textbooks, from primary school music books and stationery to university level academic works. As with the printed music, we will hunt down any title that you need.
I am a music teacher, can you provide musical instruments and accessories for my music department and my students?
From glockenspiels to rhythm sticks and electronic keyboards, we are a preferred supplier of most classroom music supplies to leading music schools and academies.
